From Here to Awesome: "ALL FOR MELISSA"
Monday, 19 May 2008
Written by Rabble Rouser

Gerard Elmore's romantic comedy - All for Melissa - is a valentine to the life he experienced and witnessed on his home turf. And Elmore's home is the luscious and fragrant Hawaiian Island of Oahu.

"We set out to make a movie to put smiles on people's faces. We didn't set out to win awards. It wasn't meant to be a flashy show - but a love letter to Hawaii, a nice little tale about everything Hawaii represents," Elmore, 28, said in a recent phone interview.

This fictional feature stars Milan Tresnak as Jared, an aspiring Oahu filmmaker who has a major screen crush on a major movie star named Melissa Williams. Jared decides to track down Melissa and convince her to star in a music video, hoping, of course, to woo her and convince her to co-star in his own life. Melissa is played by Kimberly Estrada, an actress with a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice. And as if that wasn't enough, Estrada is trained in martial arts and was named one of People Magazine's 100 Most Beautiful People in 2006. Aloha! [view entire article]

Actress Kimberly Estrada, who played the boxer Perez in the Oscar-winning Million Dollar Baby, starred in Day of Miracles as a woman who is in one of the World Trade Center buildings on Sept. 11, 2001. She dies and is brought back to life.

"I think there's a rising importance of spiritual messages in conscious media that comes to the forefront and my goal as an actress is acting in commercially lucrative films with a message that is spiritual and one people need to hear," Estrada said. "Conscious media means pieces of work that really have a message that goes above and beyond pure entertainment -- that makes people think about life and examine values about where society's headed, the earth and what we're doing to the earth and how we treat each other."

Though she didn't make much money the first time, Estrada hopes to work with Smith and McRay again.

"They were an absolute joy from start to finish and the film was a real labor of love," Estrada said.

"They were amazing and their production team was really inspiring."

Kimberly Estrada, an actress portraying a woman who turned to evangelism after surviving the attack, described the experience of making the film as down and dirty.

"I did a lot of climbing around in rubble and wire and used my experience as a stunt person," said Estrada, who played a boxer in the Academy Award-winning Million Dollar Baby. "We shot the ground zero stuff at a concrete factory with a lot of dust and concrete residue. You get a feeling of what it was like to be there."
